Canada's Farm Progress Show another successful year
In its 39th year, the 2016 edition of Canada’s Farm Progress Show, presented by Viterra, has come to an end with attendance of approximately 41,000. Nearly 700 exhibitors and representatives from 52 countries attended this year’s show.
Show manager Shirley Janeczko is pleased with the outcome.
“Attendance is on par with last year, but what we’re most excited about is that as of yesterday, our International Business Centre is tracking over $500M in sales,” says Janeczko. “We once again lived up to our reputation of being the only farm show where people can see it all.”
The International Business Centre is a key part of the show and had 700 people registered from 52 countries. The centre introduces international visitors to those exhibitors that export equipment and technology. One of those visitors was Agbor Ndoma, the executive director of the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Development in Nigeria. He is the first Nigerian visitor at the show in its 39-year history.
"In Nigeria, it can be terribly hot. Right now, if you put any grain in storage, you should be able to monitor the temperature and moisture content at the same time," Ndoma said. "The technology that I saw yesterday with Intragrain is so incredible. That means I can have the temperature and moisture content on my phone, anywhere in the world."
And it wasn’t just farmers and those in the agricultural industry who attended the show this year. The Farm Progress Forum, presented by Farm Credit Canada, saw an influx of new attendees to see former Bachelor star Chris Soules speak about how his celebrity status has given him a voice for agriculture and a platform to promote the industry he loves.
As the exhibitors pack up and the convoys begin to make their way out of Evraz Place, Janeczko offers some insight into next year’s show.
“It’s a big year in 2017 with our 40th anniversary,” she says. “Planning is already underway to make it the biggest and best show in our history, with more exhibitors, more attractions and something for everyone.”
See you next year!
